Fast FAME Analysis

The Biodiesel Analysis Toolkit was developed to provide fast, accurate analysis of Biodiesel using FT-IR spectroscopy and Attenuated Total Reflection (ATR). The toolkit tests for the presence of FAME produced by the transesterification process. The toolkit provides a framework that allows for quick, accurate calibration of samples and reproducible analysis based on that calibration.

ATR Makes Sampling Easy

The toolkit includes a Thermo Scientific FT-IR spectrometer and the Smart ARK multi-bounce ATR accessory. The Smart ARK uses interchangeable top plates, with fixed crystals, to alter the path length in an ATR experiment. The plate interchange is reproducible since the plates snap in – without further adjustments – so there is no need for recalibration. The Smart ARK's trough plate is also easy to clean.

A Framework for Sample Calibration

TQ Analyst, included in the toolkit, is a comprehensive method development platform for users of all experience levels. It has all the performance and flexibility to develop robust methods. The TQ Analyst template developed for the toolkit is based on the ASTM proposed guidelines. The spectral regions were optimized for use on ARK plates – there is no need to alter regions or other parameters for different concentration ranges. This versatility helps speed the process of sample calibration.
